    Q. I am thinking about hosting an au pair. Does she have to have her own car?

Pat says…..Your au pair does not have to have her own car; Au Pairs often share a car with a parent. The host family is responsible for the transportation to and from classes and cluster meetings, however, many of our families require an au pair to drive the children to school and other activities. In these situations an Au Pair may have exclusive use of a car. Au Pairs in suburban areas often feel isolated if they do not have reasonable use of a car.

    Q. Hi, I would like some advice and ideas about what would be an appropriate and popular gift for an Au Pair at holiday time. Thanks

Pat says….Au Pairs love personalized or engraved gifts; jewelry is of course a favorite but most important it should be something that can be treasured in the future and not too large to carry home. If your Au Pair comes from a warm climate consider buying her a cozy sweater or hat and gloves. Gift cards to movie theaters, restaurants frequented by Au Pairs or to a favorite store are perennial favorites. Good luck with the shopping!
