Smithsonian Museums:  About a 20 minute walk from the Hill is what we call “The Mall”  — it is the space between the US Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.  In between these two national monuments are the Smithsonian Museums – there are several of them and they all have free admission open seven days a week!

One of the favorites is the Museum of Natural History (25 minute walk):

The most popular museum is the National Air and Space Museum (20 minute walk):

The newest museum is the Native American Indian Museum (20 minute walk):

There are several art museums as well, including one on African Art (30 minute walk):

Folger Theater:  The Folger Theater, which is a world-class research center on Shakespeare and on the early modern age in the West. It is home to the world’s largest and finest collection of Shakespeare materials and collections of other rare Renaissance books, manuscripts, and works of art.  The Folger is known for its wide array of scholarly and public programs. These include plays, concerts, literary readings, family activities, and exhibitions, as well as numerous K-12 and college programs for students and teachers.
