About
Hello and welcome!
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Barbara Fetta, and I have been the local community counselor for Au Pair in America in Rhode Island since 2001. My work with au pairs and host families continues to be a very rewarding, enriching experience which has provided the opportunity to cultivate relationships with so many wonderful people…au pairs who come to the United States from many countries around the world, host families who appreciate the value of hosting these young ladies, and a wonderful network of compassionate and caring community counselors.
Before I became a community counselor, I had a career in marketing and sales in the jewelry industry, which provided opportunities to travel extensively throughout the United States, as well as Germany and Switzerland. I’ve also had the good fortune to do a lot of personal traveling over the years – some of my favorite places outside of the U.S.: Italy, France, Austria, London, and South Africa. I am always inspired when I talk to au pairs about their home countries – and hope to visit many of those countries before my journey is over.
After joining Au Pair in America, I went back to school to earn a master’s degree in counseling. In addition to my work with Au Pair in America, I am a yoga instructor and now also work as a mental health counselor. I currently teach yoga and stress management classes at a variety of locations – including Brown University and several corporate fitness centers. All of the activities that I am involved in have one common denominator — and that is that if I can make a positive impact on the lives of people with whom I come in contact in the course of my day, it makes me very happy.
In my work with Au Pair in America, I am able to integrate all of my skills to provide support to host families and au pairs in Rhode Island. I feel that this professional support is just one of the qualities that helps to sets us apart from other child care programs.
I am very definitely a busy lady; however, some of the things that I enjoy when I have free time are reading, writing, golf, travel, food and wine, and socializing and relaxing with friends, family, and my very spoiled cat, Jasmine.
