Fun Things We Do

Our Cluster is in the Middle of one of the most important battles of the Civil War.
There are battlefields of the Civil War (1861-1865) all around us and some others nearby in Fredericksburg and Winchester, Virginia. The First and Second Battles of Manassas took place here, and this year marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. There will be many celebrations throughout the area, starting in the summer, and you should check them out. Several battlefields will honor this occasion with reenactments of the conflict at their sites. This would be a great opportunity for host families and their au pairs to share these historic moments together and for au pairs to bring children of an age they would appreciate such an event to one of these reenactments. The main headquarters for the Civil War battlefields in this area is located just off of Route 234, near its intersection with Route 29 (Warrenton Turnpike). For more information visit http://www.nps.gov//mana/index.htm.
