In celebration of Mother’s Day, we want to applaud the special contribution of au pair host moms. In addition to being moms to their own children, these fantastic women are host moms to their au pairs. They provide homes, love, guidance, friendship and comfort for au pairs living with them as international students and caregivers.
Our resources for current host families include the ABCs of a Successful Year. The following is among the tips beginning with the letter T:
THANKS – Everyone needs to feel appreciated. Please notice and comment on the good job your au pair is doing.
Well one good turn deserves another. Just as we encourage host moms to show their appreciation for all that au pairs do for their families, it is equally as important that au pairs show their gratitude for the opportunity they have to live, study and provide child care in the U.S. For this reason and so many more, we hope all of our au pairs will take the time to share their appreciation of their host moms this Mother’s Day.
Au pairs join households in the U.S. to live like a member of the family, provide child care and study at the college level. Au pairs often fill a role like an older sibling to a host family’s children and a responsible older child to host parents. The relationship that results can become very much like a family bond, and host moms and au pairs often become lifelong friends through living and working together.
In addition to host moms, our best wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day go out to our Community Counselors and entire Au Pair in America family! We are excited to share our appreciation for the love and support of the many moms and mother figures in our lives, so happy Mother’s Day to all!
