How to Obtain a Georgia Driver\u2019s License<\/strong><\/p>\n

Information about what to take and where to go is at the end of the this document.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0All non US citizens who are present in the state for more than thirty days are considered residents and are required to obtain a Class C Driver\u2019s License in order to drive in Georgia. \u00a0https:\/\/dds.georgia.gov\/information-non-us-citizens<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n

A written test must be taken and then another appointment must be made to take the roads test. At the time of the written test, the au pair will be given instructions to make a road\u2019s test appointment. These can also be found on the DDS website. <\/strong>www.dds.ga.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0The Roads test does not have to be taken in the same location. Please research all\u00a0 available appointment close enough to drive from the host family home. A licensed driver will need to drive the Au pair to the Road’s Test, if she has been issued a temporary permit.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Class C Driver\u2019s License<\/strong><\/p>\n

Basic Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Applicant must be at least 18 years old.<\/li>\n
  2. Pass Knowledge Exam<\/a>. ( This exam can be taken in Spanish, if requested)<\/li>\n
  3. Pass Road Skills Test<\/a>. ( An au pair will drive with official riding in car with au pair. Must parelle park, reverse into parking space and make left and right proper turns, brake properly at stop signs and use proper speed. Obey all traffic signs along route)<\/li>\n
  4. Pass Vision Exam<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Documentation showing your identity and legal presence in the USA:<\/p>\n

    1. DS2019 form (\u00a0 Verify that the form is signed at the bottom by Au pair and shows current host family address)<\/li>\n
    2. Passport<\/li>\n
    3. I-94 card \u00a0(print out from the cbp website).<\/a><\/li>\n
    4. Social Security Card<\/li>\n
    5. Confirmation of placement letter provided by APIA before the au pair left her country.<\/li>\n
    6. International driver’s permit<\/li>\n
    7. Original country license ( this should be returned to you).<\/li>\n
    8. Two forms of proof of residence ( see below for what to use).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Two<\/span><\/em><\/strong> forms of proof of residential address are also required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
