Animals handle cold winter weather in a variety of ways. Some travel to a warmer climate. Others grow thicker fur coats so they can stay warm and active during the winter. Many animals hibernate during the coldest weather – they spend the warmer months eating and storing as much body fat as they can and then live off this extra weight as they sleep. Au pairs *** do not *** hibernate this winter-call a new au pair or someone you haven’t met yet and go get a hot chocolate.

Healthy Eating
Is your house filled with treats, and goodies that are tempting you? It is the season, and you are here for a cultural exchange, so try some of the traditional sweets your host family is offering, but it is a good idea to downsize your portions – how much you eat is as important as what you eat.
Starbucks Meeting
This month, I offered another meeting to give the au pairs that couldn’t make our party to connect with me and the rest of the cluster. We met at Starbucks in Harvard Square and had a good time exchanging holiday plans and life stories.

Au Pairs Celebrate the Holidays
Last weekend, some of my Boston area colleagues and I threw a holiday party for our au pairs. Between us and all attending au pairs, we had an amazing selection of international dishes.
Our party was packed with fun activities: a visit from Santa, a yankee swap game and caroling in many languages.
