{"id":2037,"date":"2014-06-28T07:37:23","date_gmt":"2014-06-28T11:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/boz\/2014\/06\/28\/happy-summer\/"},"modified":"2014-06-28T07:37:23","modified_gmt":"2014-06-28T11:37:23","slug":"happy-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/boz\/2014\/06\/28\/happy-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin-top: 37px\" src=\"http:\/\/media.salemwebnetwork.com\/ecards\/holidays\/summer3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dear Host Families and Au Pairs,<\/p>\n<p>Now that school is out (or almost out), please sit down with your au pair and discuss what her hours will be for the summer.\u00a0 The best thing about hosting an au pair is the flexibility of the schedule.\u00a0 Try to give your au pair as much time as possible when the schedule will be changing to avoid any conflicts with school or vacations, keeping in mind the government requirement that the au pair work NO MORE THAN 10 hours in one day and 45 hours per week.\u00a0 A work week for the au pair is 7 days and during those 7 days, she must have one FULL day off and one day where she does not work more than 5 hours, with no split schedule on the 5 hour day.<\/p>\n<p>Each month, your au pair must have a weekend off.\u00a0 This means a Friday when she would normally get off work until Monday morning when she would normally go back to work, she must be off.\u00a0 This is essential to the happiness of the girls and gives them the ability to go away with friends for the weekend, or take a weekend class if their work week does not allow time to take a class.<\/p>\n<p>The au pairs are not permitted to work hours over and above the 45 hours each week, even for extra pay.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t want the girls to &#8220;burn out&#8221;.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not safe, and the safety of our children is the most important.\u00a0 If you find you are at or above 45 hours each week, perhaps a part time day camp or a baby sitter for the extra hours is needed.\u00a0 Your au pair should only be caring for your children.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a class while the au pairs are here is a program requirement.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not an option.\u00a0 The au pairs come on a J-1 visa that requires the au pairs to achieve 6 credits or it&#8217;s equivalent (80 class hours) during their year here.\u00a0 This requirement must be completed to meet the terms of the visa.\u00a0 Please work with your au pair and the schedule to ensure she has time to attend class.\u00a0 Make sure you are not waiting until the last few months to cram in classes!\u00a0 That never works! \u00a0 While there are very few summer classes, the fall schedule is online and I suggest registering for a class as soon as possible in the event it is canceled and you have to make another choice.<\/p>\n<p>One final note, if you are going to be traveling away from our state with your au pair for more than 4 days, please let me know!\u00a0 Especially if you will be leaving the country, ie, Mexico, Canada, cruise, etc.\u00a0\u00a0 There are forms that must be filled out so there is no issues with the au pair reentering the country.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you have a safe and fun summer!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Host Families and Au Pairs, Now that school is out (or almost out), please sit down with your au pair and discuss what her hours will be for the summer.\u00a0 The best thing about hosting an au pair is the flexibility of the schedule.\u00a0 Try to give your au pair as much time as  <a class=\"read-more\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/boz\/2014\/06\/28\/happy-summer\/\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":65,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[27,35,266,275,347],"class_list":["post-2037","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-au-pair-tips","category-host-family-tips","tag-au-pair","tag-au-pair-in-america","tag-happy-summer-with-aupairs","tag-heike-kriszun","tag-rules-and-regulations-for-the-aupair-program"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
