Don&#8217;t let it get you down. The &#8220;winter blues&#8221; can hit anyone and I&#8217;ve found the best way to get around what we commonly call &#8220;cabin fever&#8221; (too many hours inside), is to KEEP BUSY.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Here are some cold\/rainy weather activities to do with the children:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>ABC&#8217;s of Winter Fun<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A is for Art &#8211; try drawing, painting or gluing<br \/>\nB is for Baking &#8211; bake a dessert together for dinner<br \/>\nC is for Clay &#8211; Use non-hardening clay or play dough to shape and mold<br \/>\nD is for Dance &#8211; put on a lively tape<br \/>\nE is for Exercise &#8211; be sure to get some everyday<br \/>\nF is for Friends &#8211; invite some over<br \/>\nG is for Greenhouse &#8211; find a local greenhouse to visit to enjoy the sights and smells<br \/>\nH is for House &#8211; make a playhouse from a large appliance box<br \/>\nI is for Ice skating &#8211; take the children to a local rink<br \/>\nJ is for Jigsaw puzzle &#8211; be sure to pick one that isn&#8217;t too difficult<br \/>\nK is for Kitchen science &#8211; try a safe experiment<br \/>\nL is for Library &#8211; borrow some new books<br \/>\nM is for Movie &#8211; make one with a video camera, or watch one<br \/>\nN is for Necklace &#8211; make one out of cereal or macaroni<br \/>\nO is for Origami &#8211; learn to make simple paper creations<br \/>\nP is for Puppets &#8211; socks make easy and fun puppets &#8211; put on a show!<br \/>\nQ is for Quiet Time &#8211; everyone needs some of this<br \/>\nR is for Reading aloud &#8211; choose a good book and a comfortable place to sit<br \/>\nS is for Seeds and Suet &#8211; put out food for the birds and watch them eat<br \/>\nT is for Tent &#8211; make one from old blankets and chairs<br \/>\nU is for Unplugged &#8211; do a day with no TV<br \/>\nV is for Variety &#8211; try something new everyday<br \/>\nW is for Walk &#8211; take one in any weather (be sure to dress appropriately)<br \/>\nX is for Xylophone &#8211; make your own with glasses, water and a metal spoon<br \/>\nY is for Year &#8211; make a calendar or scrapbook to remember the year<br \/>\nZ is for Zoo &#8211; visit the animals<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Listen to Music and Dance Day<\/strong><br \/>\nDon&#8217;t let the rain or snow stop you from being active. Put on a lively tape and dance around the house today.\u00a0 Show the children some traditional dance moves from your country!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tea Party Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mix up some warm cocoa or milk and invite the dolls or stuffed animals for a tea party<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art Day<\/strong><br \/>\nMake today an art day &#8211; try drawing, painting, creating with glue or clay.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Make a necklace today<\/strong>\u2013 use a licorice \u201cshoelace\u201d (the really long thin ones) and cereal for young children and then they can eat the whole thing.\u00a0 For something less sticky, use string instead of the licorice.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Puzzle Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do a puzzle or make one of your own. Find a fun picture in a magazine and glue it to lightweight cardboard. Cut into shapes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Make a Pie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pies are popular every day and are easy to make if you buy a prepared crust in the freezer or dairy section of the grocery store. Try this easy recipe:<\/p>\n<p><em>Chocolate Pie<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Purchase pre-made pie shell and Jell-O instant chocolate pudding.\u00a0 Prepare pie shell per directions.\u00a0 Let cool.\u00a0 Prepare pudding, pour into pie shell, let set for an hour and voila!\u00a0 Dessert is served!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Pet Rocks<\/strong><br \/>\nMake an imaginative pet using a smooth stone. Draw a face with marker or paint.
