\u00a0feel homesick sometimes when we are far from home.\u00a0 Homesickness comes from feeling disconnected from familiar people, places and routines.\u00a0 It is an emotion you have to learn how to cope with while you are here.\u00a0It is an emotion that passes with time.\u00a0 Here are some tips to help you:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Be a tourist, get to know where you live, visit the local sights and explore just as you would if on vacation.\u00a0 Start a list of favorite places.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Try new foods, even if they don\u2019t look good, finding new favorite nibbles is a great way to\u00a0 enjoy a new country.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Take a break from Skype.\u00a0 If you are skyping for hours every day, it is not helping you.\u00a0 Find a balance between ties at home and building new relationships here<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Focus on your new social media networking with other au pairs and American friends.\u00a0 You don\u2019t need to know what everyone is doing at home every minute.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Plan a trip with a friend, a day trip or a weekend, get excited about doing something new with a new friend and before you know it you will be excited and chatting about the trip instead of talking about what you are missing at home.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><u>Go to your cluster meeting<\/u><\/b>, This will definitely help you.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Send some gifts back home.\u00a0 Sending gifts gives you something to do, makes you go out, and is a way of sharing your experience, it makes you feel good.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Make a Bucket List.\u00a0 This is \u00a0a list of what you hope to do and see during\u00a0 your year as an au pair.\u00a0 Keep it on the wall and you will enjoying checking off each thing on the list as you do it.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Not everything has to change.\u00a0 If you loved jogging at home, do it here.\u00a0 There are some habits you love that you can keep.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Create a routine.\u00a0 Having a routine will help\u00a0 you feel at home and settle into life here.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Do not stay home.\u00a0 Get out and about, go to the gym, the park, a coffee shop, a movie, staying home alone will not help homesickness<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Ask you counselor to connect you with another au pair who was also homesick, there\u2019s nothing better than talking to someone who has been in your shoes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Start an old fashioned scrap book with real pictures and mementos from your year.\u00a0 It will give you something to work on when you\u00a0 have quiet time alone and as your year progresses you will be able to see what an amazing experience you are having.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have a wonderful keepsake to take home with you.\u00a0 You\u2019ll feel so proud of your scrapbook!<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Most importantly, talk to someone, if you feel sad or homesick, talk to your host family, call me, or a friend.\u00a0 Being part of a cluster enables us to
