Take a vision test and a written rules of the road knowledge test. You must bring…
– Passport, DS 2019 form, J-1 Visa and I-94 card
– International Drivers license
– Social Security number
– Certificate of completion for your Safe Driving Class from the driving school
– Letter from Host Family stating that you are currently staying with them as their au pair
– An envelope addressed to you to show proof that you are staying at your host family’s house.
– $40.00 testing fee
When you are at the DMV, you will fill out an application form, or you can order the form from – http://www.dmvct.state.ct.us/r229form.htm and the form will be mailed to you.
When you pass those two tests, you can make an appointment for your actual road test.
The fee for your license will be either $72 or $84 depending on how many years the license will be valid (this is based on your date of birth). Please note that you may have to go back and pick up your new license in a day or two.

Au Pairs with German, French or Canadian licenses do not have to do the 8 hour safety course or road test, and only have to fill out an application and take the vision test.
