It is valid anywhere in the world except your home country. It is a type of travel insurance, which covers all types of injuries and illnesses, but does not cover preventative care.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"xoxo blogroll\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Your Insurance Website &amp; App\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u2013 Use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.culturalinsurance.com\/mycisiapp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">myCISI app<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mycisi.com\/CISIPortalWeb\/pub\/login.aspx?PT=GEN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">myCISI desktop log-in<\/a> to obtain information about your insurance coverage, account and reprint your insurance card.\n<ul class=\"xoxo blogroll\">\n<li>Search for doctors and facilities who accept your insurance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetna.com\/dsepublic\/#\/contentPage?page=providerSearchLanding&amp;site_id=passport\">here<\/a>. Choose \u201cPassport to Healthcare Primary PPO Network\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Your Insurance Card<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 You should carry your personal health insurance card with you at all times. The card is attached to an email from \u2018My CISI\u2019 which you received at orientation. Search your email for \u201cenrollments@mycisi.com\u201d. \u00a0<strong>If you cannot find the email or you lose your insurance card, you can:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Go on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mycisi.com\/CISIPortalWeb\/pub\/login.aspx?PT=GEN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">myCISI desktop log-in<\/a>\u00a0and print a new card.<\/li>\n<li>Contact the insurance company by calling 203-399-5130 or emailing <a href=\"mailto:Claimhelp@culturalinsurance.com\">Claimhelp@culturalinsurance.com<\/a><b>. <\/b>Please include your au pair ID number in the email along with your host family\u2019s name and address. Telemedicine Service<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">This is a free service.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Doctors can diagnose and treat minor illnesses, injuries, infections, colds and allergies via telemedicine consult. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">This service is great if you are not feeling well, but unsure whether you should go to the urgent care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Available 24\/7 by calling AXA Assistance at at 1-855-327-1411 (toll free). <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Trained, licensed, and experienced doctors. Multi-language capabilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Finding a Doctor, Clinic, or Hospital\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Normally the best place to go in-person for any illness or injury is an Urgent Care clinic.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">They are typically open daily from 8 am until 10 pm.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">For most urgent care clinics an appointment is not required. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">You can just walk in, but for ones who offer appointment booking online or by phone, that can reduce your wait time once you arrive.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Search for urgent care clinics who accept your insurance <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aetna.com\/dsepublic\/#\/contentPage?page=providerSearchLanding&amp;site_id=passport\">here<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">. They force au pairs to pay upfront in violation of the contract with our insurance company. <\/span><span class=\"markm13vs8df5\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">We have many other local options like Patient First, Med Express, and Concentra where they will bill the insurance before charging an au pair.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Hospital Emergency Room<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Only go to the Emergency Room at the hospital for a serious medical issue requiring immediate care. (For example, anything serious enough that you consider calling 911 for an ambulance or asking someone to take you to get care immediately.) For anything less than a true emergency, it is best to use Doctor Please Telemedicine service or be seen by a doctor at an Urgent Care Clinic. If Doctor Please Telemedicine or Urgent Care directs you to the Emergency Room, then it will be covered as an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>If you go to the Emergency Room at the hospital for anything less than a true emergency, you will be charged an extra $500 non-emergency deductible by the insurance company<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>If you truly think you are having a life-threatening emergency, then go directly to the nearest hospital. Any hospital in our local area should take your insurance.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Medical Specialists<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you need to see a specialist please search this database for a doctor who takes your insurance: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetna.com\/dsepublic\/#\/contentPage?page=providerSearchLanding&amp;site_id=passport\">click here.<\/a> After you enter your zip code, you will be asked to Select a Plan, choose \u201cPassport to Healthcare Primary PPO Network\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Tell the doctor\/care provider that you have <strong>Aetna\u00a0Health Insurance\u00a0<\/strong>when you call to make your appointment or check in at the office. Always confirm that they still take your insurance. Immediately call or email the insurance company if a listed provider states that they do not take your insurance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\">Counseling\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>AXA Remote Behavioral Health Assistance is available to au pairs experiencing a mental health crisis. AXA can be reached at 1-855-327-1411 (toll free). Up to three sessions are available free of charge using this service. This benefit is not subject to your insurance plan deductible or co-pay.<\/p>\n<p>Counseling services are covered with a limit of $500. If you have the basic plan, you would need to pay your $50 deductible, then a 20% co-pay and the insurance pays 80% (up to a maximum of $500).<\/p>\n<p>To find a counselor who accepts your insurance, search <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetna.com\/dsepublic\/?fbclid=IwAR05hmgzq37r82R2-uEUeybyZ-MeEGj5AOGYmHHPFgmInhprdCHCgm6NtFY#\/contentPage?page=providerSearchLanding&amp;site_id=passport\">this database<\/a>: After you enter your zip code, you will be asked to Select a Plan, choose \u201cPassport to Healthcare Primary PPO Network\u201d. Print your participation letter in your au pair portal for proof of income to show.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/psyd.columbian.gwu.edu\/clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Washington University Mental Health Clinic<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\">Prescription Medicine<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>If you arrived or began your extension in 2026: <\/strong>You are now able to get your prescriptions filled at participating pharmacies and billed directly to insurance, eliminating the need to pay upfront and file a claim for reimbursement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/mdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/Unknown.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5148\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/mdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/Unknown.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Locate participating pharmacies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetna.com\/docfind\/home.do?site_id=aetnapharmacy&amp;langpref=en\">here<\/a>. Search for: <em>Pharmacies &gt;<\/em> Type: <em>Retail Pharmacy Locations<\/em> &gt; Search in: <em>Enter your ZIP Code<\/em> &gt; Select a Pharmacy Network: <em>Aetna National Pharmacy Network (most common)<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Show your insurance card at the pharmacy.*<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">This pharmacy benefit only applies to prescriptions related to a covered illness or injury under <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">the current CISI insurance policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* If you arrived or began your extension between January 1-May 1, 2026, check your email for your updated insurance card. It was sent around May 4, 2026 by enrollments@culturalinsurance.com. This new card had an additional line at the bottom with a WID number, RxBIN and PCN numbers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you arrived or began your extension in 2025:\u00a0<\/strong>You need to pay upfront at the pharmacy. Before you go the get your prescription filled, I strongly recommend you compare the prices of your medication using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodrx.com\">GoodRX<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellrx.com\/prescriptions\/\">WellRX<\/a>. Both of these websites will compare prices of local pharmacies and you will need to give the code or prescription card from the website to receive the discounted price.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>You will need to pay the full cost for the prescription medication at the pharmacy.<\/li>\n<li>Then, you send the insurance company:\n<ul>\n<li>A completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.culturalinsurance.com\/students\/claim-information.asp\">claim form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Your pharmacy receipt (the one usually stapled to the bag with your name, name of medicine, and cost)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Note: The cash register receipt on its own WILL NOT be enough, you must have the detailed receipt described above.) They will reimburse you for their share of the prescription cost,\u00a0(80% or 100% depending on your insurance plan). It will come in the mail in about 4 weeks as a check payable to you.<\/li>\n<li>Make copies (or take photos with your phone) of the receipt and your claim form before sending. Keep those for your records until you receive payment for your claim.<\/li>\n<li>You may monitor the status of your claim on the CISI website or app.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"column\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\">Services That are Not Covered\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\">High-Risk Sports<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Your regular insurance will not cover skiing, snowboarding, rollerblading (inline skates) or other \u201chigh-risk sports\u201d unless you add sports insurance. Snow tubing, ice skating and quad roller skating do not require sports insurance.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you arrived in 2026 <\/strong>&#8211; You cannot add sports insurance after orientation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you arrived or began your extension in 2025 <\/strong>&#8211; You may add sports insurance at any time during your year.\n<ul>\n<li>Sports Insurance costs $85 for 12 months.<\/li>\n<li>It takes 48 hours to take effect and will cover you for 12 months from your date of enrollment.<\/li>\n<li>To enroll in sports insurance, use the link found in the email sent to you with the subject &#8220;Au Pair in America Sports Insurance Upgrade Option&#8221;. Ask your community counselor if you are having trouble finding the email with the sports insurance enrollment link.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\">Preventive Care<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Your health insurance does NOT cover preventive care, like the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Dental Care* (CISI medical upgrade plan includes some emergency dental coverage. Basic plan does not include dental.)<\/li>\n<li>Physicals\/Check-ups<\/li>\n<li>Preventive Gynecology Care\/Birth Control*<\/li>\n<li>Vision Care (glasses and contacts)*<\/li>\n<li>Vaccines (See info above on free COVID vaccine boosters and check <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.aupairinamerica.com\/mdf\/2025\/09\/12\/where-to-get-your-flu-shot-8\/\">THIS<\/a> blog post for information on the seasonal flu vaccine.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*See below for information on low-cost options for some of these services.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1a9c9c;\"><strong>Women\u2019s Health Issues\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Your medical insurance DOES cover medical problems (testing for a suspected STD, infections, and other gynecological conditions) as long as they are not pre-existing conditions. For gynecology problems, you will give them your insurance card and it will be handled like any other injury or illness.<\/li>\n<li>Your insurance DOES NOT cover preventive care (annual gynecology exam, preventive screening tests, or birth control). This would include services like filling a cavity or repairing a chipped tooth, as long as the tooth was in good health at the time of her arrival to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>For preventive dental care (cleaning) and\/or au pairs with basic insurance needing any dental care, these are some affordable options. The following clinics offer a variety of dental care including preventive care and treatment for issues. Services vary from clinic to clinic. Discounts are available based on your income.
