If possible, keep these sources of fire in locked drawers. Consider buying only \u201cchild-proof\u201d lighters\u2014but be aware that no product is completely child-proof.<\/li>\n<li>Children as young as two years old can strike matches and start fires.<\/li>\n<li>Never leave children unattended near operating stoves or burning candles, even for a short time.<\/li>\n<li>Teach children not to pick up matches or lighters they may find. Instead, they should tell an adult immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fire Safety for kids by a kid!\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3yJtSSovwJM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Fire Safety at Home<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of the home, especially near sleeping areas.<\/li>\n<li>Smoke alarms should be kept clean of dust by regularly vacuuming over and around them.<\/li>\n<li>Replace batteries in smoke alarms at least once a year. And replace the entire unit after ten years of service, or as the manufacturer recommends.<\/li>\n<li>Families should plan and practice two escape routes from each room of their home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Make sure children know not to hide in the event of a fire. Explain that firefighters wear lots of equipment to protect them from the fire and smoke.
