as you see them. Children may need some time to pass before<\/p>\n
they want to open up about their day. They may be more willing<\/p>\n
to share stories if you give them some time to get out of school<\/p>\n

Ask your host child specific questions. If you ask \u201chow was your<\/p>\n
day\u201d you may find you get the same response every day. Here are<\/p>\n
some examples of questions to stimulate conversation:<\/p>\n
\u201cWho did you eat lunch with?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat did you play at recess?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTell me one new thing your teacher taught you today?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat was the best thing that happened at school today?\u201d<\/p>\n

Tell your host child about your day. Talking about what you did<\/p>\n
may start conversation and encourage your host child to share.<\/p>\n

Be silly. If you have young host children do not be afraid to act a<\/p>\n
little silly. You can start a conversation by telling them how you<\/p>\n
think their day went and mentioning silly things. For example,<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me guess something fun that happened today. Did a hot air<\/p>\n
balloon land at recess and everyone took a hot air balloon ride?\u201d<\/p>\n

Be patient. All children are different and some are more willing to<\/p>\n
share stories. If you are consistent with your communication, your<\/p>\n
host child will follow your cues and open up<\/p>\n
