If you\u2019re looking for the easiest way to make heart-shaped crayons, you\u2019re best bet is heart shaped silicone molds that you can place directly into the oven.\u00a0\u00a0Here\u2019s a great tutorial for that<\/a>.\u00a0 I, unfortunately, did not have silicone molds at home.\u00a0 I had plastic heart molds (and, by golly, we were going to use them!!).\u00a0 So, I scoured the internet for alternative methods and picked the easiest things I could that we had on hand.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what we ended up with:<\/div>\n

Ingredients<\/b>:
\nLots of\u00a0 broken crayons\u00a0(Update:\u00a0 Be sure to use Crayola\u2019s instead of generic crayons for the best results)<\/i>
\nPlastic heart-shaped candy molds
\nGlass Jars\u00a0 (old pickle, jam, relish, etc. jars)
\nChop Sticks (for stirring)
\nPot-holders<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 The kids got to work pulling out all the broken crayons from our big tub of crayons.\u00a0 Then they sorted them by color and began unwrapping them.\u00a0 (I used a knife to score the sides of the wrappers to make this easier.)<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Then, we put each color into a different jar.\u00a0 (One site recommended Dixie cups for this part and another said that aluminum cans in a water bath on the stove could be substituted.\u00a0 We did not have either of those.)\u00a0 I only had 3 jars so we did the lighter colors first and kept like colors together.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Microwave each jar for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally with the chop sticks.\u00a0 Caution:\u00a0 THE JARS WILL BE HOT!!!\u00a0 Be sure to use a pot-holder or towel to remove them from the microwave.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Once melted, pour the wax into the candy molds and let settle for a few minutes.\u00a0 Then, they can safely be transferred to the freezer.\u00a0 After a few minutes in the freezer, they will pop right out of the molds.<\/p>\n

*We did one color at a time since we only had two molds and colored pictures in between colors.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Then, we bagged up a few crayons for each child in small ziplock bags found in the bead & jewelry section of any craft store and added a little note that read \u201cValentine, You Color My World.\u201d<\/p>\n
