What You\u2019ll Need:<\/p>\n

Toilet- and\/or paper-towel tubes
\nGesso (optional, for brighter color)
\nCraft paint
\nHot-glue gun or adhesive dots
\nPoster putty<\/p>\n

Directions:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0If desired, prime tubes inside and out with gesso; let dry. Then paint; let dry completely<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Flatten the tubes and use scissors to cut them into slices. For a large butterfly, you\u2019ll need five \u215d-inch-wide slices. For a small butterfly, you\u2019ll need two \u00bd-inch-wide slices and one \u00bc-inch-wide slice (eyeball it).<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0To construct the small butterfly: Fold two \u00bd-inchwide slices in half; unfold. Add a dot of hot glue (an adult\u2019s job) to the inside center of each and refold to make a set of wings. Glue the two sets of wings to the sides of the \u00bc-inch-wide \u201cbody.\u201d<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0To construct a large butterfly: Add a dot of glue to the inside center of one of the \u215d-inch slices and squish it together to make a \u201cbody.\u201d Add a dot of glue to the flat side and press on another slice for a wing, as shown. Repeat for other three wings.<\/p>\n
