On May 16th the Westchester Clusters gathered for an annual “Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundae” Party. Au Pairs tell us that ice cream is their favorite sweet treat, and judging by the smiling faces and empty ice cream and topping containers, they’re not kidding! Joining their counselors, Au Pairs learned the ins and outs of filling out a U.S. tax return form.

On January 29th many members of our cluster and some friends got together at the Royal Palace Restaurant to enjoy their amazing buffet. There were so many choices and it seemed that most in attendance wanted to taste everything. Some actually managed to do that!

The blog post includes talks about the thought process and thinking that goes into hiring an au pair. At the end of the post, he states that he will check in with posts from time-to-time about his progress in the placement process – and also solicits stories and experiences about either having an au pair or about friends who have had an au pair.

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for being an iconic figure in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using
nonviolent methods following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. King has become a national icon in the history of modern American liberalism.
A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957, serving as its first president. King’s efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. There, he expanded 
American values to include the vision of a color blind society, and established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history.
In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other nonviolent means. By the time of his death in 1968, he had refocused his efforts on ending poverty and stopping the Vietnam War.
King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and Congressional Gold Medal in 2004; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a U.S. federal holiday in 1986.

On 21 December several Au Pair in America’s Westchester clusters gathered for an amazing dessert buffet to celebrate the holiday season. The delicious diversity of international creations was a testament to the culinary skills of the au pairs who prepared their favorite treats to share. Everyone ate too much because there were simply too many temptations and so many interesting new desserts to taste!

Animals handle cold winter weather in a variety of ways. Some
travel to a warmer climate. Others grow thicker fur coats so they can stay warm
and active during the winter. Many animals hibernate during the coldest weather
– they spend the warmer months eating and storing as much body fat as they can
and then live off this extra weight as they sleep. Au pairs…do not hibernate
this winter…call a new au pair or someone you haven’t met yet and go get a hot
chocolate. And be sure to dress in layers to stay comfortable both indoors and out!
