Canoeing and picnic in Concord

This month, we met 2 other clusters for canoeing and a picnic.  Au pairs canoed from the South Bridge to the North Bridge where we sat for a picnic.

This month, we had many good-byes for those au pairs that are going home this summer. For more photos go to canoeing and picnic

Canoeing in Concord

On a nice sunny Saturday In June, we met at the South Bridge in Concord.  4 au pairs canoed to the North Bridge and met me and other au pairs for a picnic.

We said good-bye to Justine who will leave us in August and to Chiara who is extending with another family in July.

Meeting at this historic site is another way to offer culturally meaningful experiences to my au pairs who come from all over the world.

Au Pairs Canoe and Picnic in Historic Concord

What a fun event our annual canoeing and picnic was again this June!  For our cluster meeting, we met up with 2 other clusters at the South Bridge boat house.  From there, au pairs canoed to the North Bridge, where counselors had prepared a picnic with fruit, brownies and lemonade.  It was a beautiful day, perfect for our event.

Summer is a big time for good-byes.  We said good-bye to Julia, Junika, Jenni, Khim and Lucie.  We wish you all the best for your future!   We welcomed Veronika into our cluster.

For our June meeting, we met two other au pair groups at the North Bridge in Concord for a picnic.   The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed cookies, fruit, lemonade and a good-bye cake.   We said good-bye to Carmen, Linda, Victoria, Julia, Natalie and Sophie who will be returning to their home country over the summer.   It was nice to acknowledge their accomplishments and for them to share their experience with other au pairs.

After the picnic, we headed to the South Bridge to rent canoes.   Au Pairs went in groups of 3 or 4 and enjoyed their trip on the Concord River.

Canoeing The Concord River

Canoeing The Concord River

We had so much fun last weekend at our August cluster meeting.  We met at the boathouse in Concord and rented 3 canoes.   In groups of 4 or 5 we canoed up the Concord River.  There were lots of laughs involved.   Afterwards, we had a nice picnic by the riverside and enjoyed Thai food, snacks and Lemon Pound Cake.

Some of the new au pairs had a chance to talk to the more seasoned au pairs about courses they are interested in taking.   As part of the au pair program, au pairs are required to take 6 credits or 80 hours in the classroom.  Many au pairs take ESL classes to improve their English, or courses where they learn about American culture.  Of course many au pairs are excited to be part of the Harvard Extension School experience.
