Au Pair Graduates from Suffolk College ESL Program

ESL Graduation Spring 2012

Every Spring and again in the Winter, Suffolk Community College holds a wonderful graduation ceremony for the graduates of the English as a Second Language program.  Many au pairs from Au Pair in America have graduated from this intensive program!

Patty graduates from ESL

Patricia Minetto graduated at the Spring Ceremony this past weekend.  Patty has been an au pair with a family in Port Jefferson for two years and will be heading back to Brazil in June.  Her host family attended her graduation and are very proud of her.  They will miss Patty very much, but they will remain in touch and hope to see each other again.  In the meantime, they are enjoying their last few weeks together and preparing for the return of Kady Krauss, a former au pair with their family, returning for another year as an au pair with their family.  Au Pairs may return after going home to their country for 2 years, if when they return they will be 26 years old or younger.

Saskia Esl graduation

Also graduating is first year Au Pair Saskia Reder from Germany.  Saskia is with a family in Coram.  She is caring for autistic twin girls and is much appreciated by her host family.

Our au pairs can care for many different kinds of children. We have special au pairs for special needs children.  Simplify your life and give your children the best and most extensive care available with Au Pair in America!

The Brooklyn Bridge and South Street Seaport

Brooklyn Bridge &south_street_seaport1ny brooklyn bridge 001Sunday May 6th was a beautiful day in NYC!  Some of the au pairs from the Long Island Clusters of Au Pair in America walked from Borough Hall in Brooklyn across the Brooklyn Bridge.  The bridge was crowded with walkers and bikers.  It was also the day of the NYC Bike-a-thon through all 5 NYC boroughs!  ny brooklyn bridge 006

South Street Seaport is close to the bridge, so we walked over there after walking across the bridge.  The area was full of people enjoying the beautiful weather in outdoor restaurants and all the kiosks along Fulton Street and on the wharf!  ny brooklyn bridge 007

Do Some Moon Gazing Tonight!

super moonOn Saturday, the moon will be up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than the other full moons of 2012, according NASA.

That’s because it will reach perigee, its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, at 11:34 p.m. ET and become full just a minute later.  When the moon is on the perigee side of its orbit, it’s about 31,000 miles closer to Earth than the apogee side. The only effects expected are slightly higher tides and many beautiful photos.  The annual Eta Aquarid meteor shower, which is associated with Halley’s comet, will coincide with the coming perigee moon. Its light will likely dim all but the brightest meteors.  It should be a gorgeous display if the weather cooperates. The moon will appear largest and most dazzling when it’s near the horizon, as seen in this photo gallery showing last year’s super moon.

Community Counselors from Au Pair in America have an Edge on Training

Costa Rica danceRepresentatives from Au Pair in America around the world gathered last week in Costa Rica for a Conference.  Connecting with our team from around the world and especially with our Community Counselors from all over the United States was the goal of the conference.  Opportunities were offered to travel in Costa Rica before or after the Conference and many of us were happy to see the rain forest and coasts of Costa Rica.  We met the beautiful friendly people of Costa Rica and loved their mantra:

Pura Vida!

Costa Rica workshop groupCosta Rica partyAt the Conference we had workshops on ways to provide great service to our host families and au pairs.  The connections we form at these meetings, help us service all our families and au pairs even more effectively.  It was a wonderful Conference and re-energized us in our mission of cultural exchange and providing the best and most trusted intercultural live-in childcare in the world!
