Kristi Halpern grew up in Huntington NY and has called Oyster Bay home for over 25 years. Kristi and her husband Marc raised 2 sons and hosted seven au pairs when their children were young. Before becoming a community counselor for Au Pair In America, Kristi worked in design and sales in the textile industry. Kristi worked with clients in many fields including apparel, cosmetics, packaging and the floral industry.
Kristi also volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, board member of the OBHS Friends of the Performing Arts Center and an honorary board member of the local Teleflora Unit.
In her spare time, Kristi loves being outdoors and enjoys, cross country skiing, cycling and is an active master member of Sagamore Rowing Association.

As a Community Counselor for Au Pair in America, Kristi has served Host Families and Au Pairs from Sea Cliff to Dix Hills since May 2015.  She admires the young women who travel far from home and care lovingly for American children.  Kristi feels her host families are warm and welcoming and embrace the cultural exchange part of the program along with the childcare they receive from their au pairs.

Every month the au pairs have a cluster activity arranged by Kristi.  Once a quarter they have a meeting about childcare, safety and valuable tips on life in the USA.  These also include social time where au pairs can visit with one another in Kristi’s home.  Conversation is lively and the au pairs form long lasting friendships.  Kristi stays in contact with many of her au pairs after they finish the program.

Kristi says “Many of the host families and au pairs continue their relationships long past their year together and continue to feel like family”.  Children benefit from growing up in homes where they learn about cultural diversity from someone they love.  The experience is rewarding to the host parents, the children and the au pair. Children who grow up under the care of an au pair gain a greater understanding of the world and become active members of the global community.
