#SaveJ1 Advocacy Efforts

Many families are asking what they can do to continue the advocacy efforts to establish an exemption for the au pair program and other J-1 programs. We are working with the Alliance for International Exchange and other sponsors on the #SaveJ1 Campaign. Among the first steps in our collective advocacy efforts is to harness the power of social media, share stories about cultural exchange, and spread the word about this important campaign.

Below are key initiatives being taken by stakeholders across the exchange community. We encourage you to take part in all of them if possible. The review of the proclamation will take place is approximately 30 days from June 24th – it is critical that all voices be heard regarding an exemption for au pairs!

Letter Writing Campaigns

Host families: write a letter to the White House and Congress. Let them know how the au pair program impacts your life and why it is important to exempt au pairs from the executive order.

Social Media

Take to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram and let the world know how important the program is to your family. Here are some ready to use posts!

Using #SaveJ1 will help to unify the campaign and aggregate all content on social platforms. When posting to Twitter, please keep the following in mind:

  • Tweets have a 240-character limit
  • Images are not counted in the character limit
  • Be sure to check character limits when inserting city, state and legislator names into your posts
