Driving is a necessity in San Diego. Most families do not live near public transportation.
When an au pair arrives, she will probably have an international driver’s license. The State of California says that she can drive on an international license for up to 90 days from her arrival to California. You may find that your Insurance company has a different policy with regards to driving with an International License. To be on the “safe” side, it’s always best to follow the State of California’s rule!
To get a California Driver’s License a social security number is required. Once she has her SS number, an au pair can take the written test and then schedule the road test.
