WA Educational Options

Au pairs must complete 72 hours of non-credit classroom instruction at a US American, post-secondary institution – same as 6 credits or 7.2 CEUs.  Au pairs can take one online class per semester if they have a justifiable reason, otherwise in person is recommended for the cultural exchange.  Hours can be acquired by in-person, hybrid, or weekend course.  

Accreditation Database – Search for your US American school to see if it is accredited.

Online Courses  – One online course is allowed per semester.

  • APIA Advantage Course – UCLA Extension Program – APIA designed American history course approved by the Department of State.  All online coursework over 19 weeks.
  • Coursera – database of online courses.  Course must be taken from a US based college and found in the accreditation database listed above.  IMPORTANT – Check with APIA CC prior to approval.  No international colleges.
  • edX – database of online courses. Course must be taken from a US based college and found in the accreditation database listed above.  IMPORTANT – Check with APIA CC prior to approval.

  • Planned Parenthood – women’s health care – out of insurance network
  • Open Path – psychotherapy collective – out of insurance network

You will need to pre-register online and bring in person for verification: 1) Your passport and visa  2) Your 1-94 entrance number  3) Your DS-2019 form, including host family name, address and contact info.  SS card should be mailed 5-7 days after in person approval.  (Should you encounter issues please refer to the POM -program operations manual- for social security and the reference to au pair information can be found in section RM 10211.345.)
