Our au pair program has received widespread success and recognition for not only providing families with reliable childcare, but also building meaningful connections for all involved. One such example is the Dekmar family from Georgia who recently shared the positive impact that Emilia, their au pair from Argentina, has made on their lives.
Genuine Affection
At Au Pair in America, we put in a lot of thought into helping families with the au pair search, selection, and matching process. As a result, what starts as a very formal relationship with comprehensive screening and training often evolves into a genuine loving one, as in the case of Emi (Emilia) and Elliot.
“I have never encountered Emi at work when she is not actively engaging with Elliot in creative toddler play. She tends to his nutritional needs, medicates his skin rashes, and always keeps his clothes and toys clean and tidy without being asked. She is intuitive enough to strike the perfect balance between fostering his independence and nurturing and supporting him with healthy attachment, just as we strive to do ourselves. Instead of being eager to run out the door at the end of a long day of work, Emi is more often waiting eagerly to tell me about something new that Elliot has learned or accomplished. Even when she is away on vacation, she messages us to check on Elliot. It is clear that Emi genuinely loves Elliot. And the child is thriving!”
Cultural Exchange
All our au pairs participate in a comprehensive orientation program that covers child development, child safety, and adaptation training, but at the heart of the program is cross-cultural exchange. We know that children benefit from being introduced to new languages and global perspectives during their formative years, so it’s no surprise that Elliot has an impressive vocabulary even though he is not even two years old.
“Just shy of two years old, Elliot has a robust vocabulary, including plants and animals, vehicles, and the common colors in both English and Spanish. (However, he only refers to “pink” or “rosa” as “Emi” because he knows it is her favorite color.) He is learning about expressing feelings, describing movement, feeding himself, and how to ask for help. He is enjoying access to a global community, via interactions with Emi’s friends and family at home, virtually, and abroad. “
Long-Lasting Relationship
“The love we pour into a child becomes the foundation for his growth and development.”
This was Emilia’s response to the host family’s interview question about her philosophy and approach to early childhood learning. She stayed true to her promises, creating a lovely bond with the Dekmars, one that’s built to last, and strong enough to transcend borders.
“Even after she moves on, our beloved Emi will always be an integral part of us, as our very first au pair. A love like this one surely spans continents!”
Our goal is to help families find the right au pair that meets their unique needs, creating intercultural relationships like the one between Emilia from Argentina and the Dekmar family in Georgia. Their story truly captures the essence of our au pair program.
Your family deserves flexible and dependable childcare with an international flair.
