Spectacle Island trip with aupairs

P1030646 - CopyYesterday we had a spectacular trip to Spectacle Island with aupairs from the greater Boston area. We all enjoyed the view from the ferry over the Boston skyline while heading to the island in the morning.

P1030623 - Copy

On the island we enjoyed the beach, had picnic for lunch and participated in a guided tour over the island.

P1030658 - CopyWe listened to the ranger who gave the tour how the island was shaped and became a park later with all the soil of the big dig from the major road construction in Boston that was going on for over 10 years.

From the top of the island we had an even better view to all islands around, the Boston Logan airport and the skyline of the city of Boston.

Despite fridig temperatures we had many aupairs attending the January cluster meeting at Nashoba Valley snow tubing park. Everybody was great prepared for the weather conditions with many layers of clothing and warmed up inside during breaks with hot chocolate and hot tea.

It was a lot of fun for all and for many aupairs who had never experienced snow a really special  event. Our cluster met with 4 other cluster from the greater Boston area who offer the  snow tubing as a yearly tradition from Au Pair in America during the winter season.

Annual host family meeting at the apple orchard in Stow

Local community counselors of the greater Boston area of Au Pair in America

Local community counselors of the greater Boston area of Au Pair in America

Last Saturday, eight Boston area au pair clusters met at Carver Hill Orchard in Stow, MA for our annual host family/au pair picnic.    Host families and au pairs enjoyed apple cider and cider donuts provided by the counselors and the kids participated in fall themed art projects.  Families and au pairs also went apple picking and enjoyed a hayride through the orchard.

As per State Department regulation, as an au pair agency, we need to offer our host families an informational host family workshop each year during which host families can also meet each other and get to know the cluster better.

We always like to offer this apple picking venue  since it offers the cultural experience that is so much part of our au pair program.   Host families had a choice of informational handouts relating to the host family – au pair relationship and cultural differences.

First Prize for the International Peace Day competition

Meet Your Global Neighbor

In honor of the International Day of Peace which is celebrated on Sept 21, Au Pair in America au pairs submitted their visions of peace.  Heike Krizun, a community counselor in MA encouraged her au pairs to work together to create  one entry.  Here is a quilt of many colors from many nations.  This is cultural exchange in action; the au pairs are learning about each other and from each other-the first step towards peace in another generation.  Check this out: http://www.globalawareness.com/

September Clustermeeting

We had an amazing meeting today at my house with many new aupairs who arrived over the summer and needed to get to know each other.

We had to say good bye to Linda from Germany who will return home in October and who shared her great time here as aupair for one year with us.

In addition we worked on an art project for the International Peace Day which will be on Sept 21. Everybody was pretty busy with the project, chatting, eating and  enjoying our sunny New England weather outdoors.

Kayaking for our August cluster meeting

We met with our aupairs in our cluster today for a  kayaking event as our August cluster meeting at the Charles River.

Many new aupairs who just arrived last week had a chance to get connections to others and saw the Boston skyline for their first time. We had wonderful weather and it was dry and not too hot to paddle along the river through the salt and pepper bridge that connects Boston with Cambridge.

After signing in we waited for everybody to be there

For some aupairs it was also their last cluster meeting because they will go home after being an aupair for one successful year like Maria from Germany does in the Educare program. Or like Hannah from South Africa who will extend her stay as an aupair in the standart aupair program for another year in a different area of the US.

It was a wonderful meeting to share memories, exchange experiences to give out hints and tips for new aupairs and to enjoy the outdoors together. To see all pix please go to Kayaking August cluster meeting 2012.

July cluster meeting at the counselor’s house

Summer is the time when many aupairs leave and many arrive in the US. A fantastic opportunity for them to exchange their experience as aupairs and living in our wonderful city Boston.

At our July Cluster meeting last Sunday we had a wonderful time to help the new arrivals to get to know each other.

As always we have had an agenda for our meeting which was this time: Healthy snacks for kids.

Not so healthy but delicious was the contribution of Katrine from Denmark to our meeting :

What a cluster......:)

I love my cluster 🙂
