March Cluster Meeting – Making Healing Hand Cream
At this month’s cluster meeting we had a guest who taught a class on how to make your own healing hand cream. The au pairs were taught how they can treat the children’s scrapes and bumps by using these creams. We all enjoyed the different smells and sampled a variety of essential oils as well as ingredients that make up the base of the cream like coconut, beeswax, and jojoba. At the end of the class the au pairs went home with 2 jars of cream and a salve!
February "Bingo Night" Cluster Meeting
“Bingo Night” was such a hit last year, that we decided to do it again this year for our February cluster meeting — once again with snacks, prizes, plenty of laughter. Last year, Almen’s “magic” bingo card earned about five prizes for the evening; and though she was hoping for the same good fortune this time around, the magic card went to Lorely this year!

President's Day – February 17

President’s Day is a Federal holiday created to commemorate the births of former Presidents George Washington (Feb. 22) and Abraham Lincoln (Feb. 12). Throughout America, Presidents’ Day is observed by big sales in the stores, closed schools and no mail delivery.
Things to do with children: The United States has had more than 40 presidents. How many can the children name? Who has been president during their lifetime? Take a look at American coins and bills; who are the Presidents pictured on each coin and bill?

Annual Au Pair Birthday Party
February 3- Super Bowl Sunday!

The Super Bowl is the National Football League championship game, played annually between the champions of the National and the American Football Conferences. This year’s game features the San Francisco 49ers vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and it will be played at the “Mercedez-Benz Superdome” in New Orleans, Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. “Super Bowl Sunday” is a major event in the U.S., and a popular time for friends and family to gather in front of the TV. Many people host or attend “Super Bowl Parties” where they watch the game together while enjoying food and drink. Each year millions of people watch the game, the half-time show – or just the commercials! People will be talking about the commercials for days. Columbus Day is celebrated in the USA on the second Monday in October. It is a day in which we celebrated Christopher Columbus’ trip from Spain to Hispaniola, North America in 1492. He was sent by King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella of Spain. Columbus’ crew sailed on the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Columbus was looking for a faster route to the far east (Asia) in order to trade for valuable spices. Instead, he found North America, after sailing for five weeks. The ship Santa Maria sank in Hispaniola, but the Niña and the Pinta both made it back to Spain.

November Cluster Meeting – Bowling at Town Hall Lanes
We really had fun bowling at Town Hall Lanes on Sunday night — it turns out that some of our au pairs are very skilled at duckpin bowling! Some expressed interest in returning on their own to do it again — you may want to sign up with Town Hall Lanes to receive coupons and special offers by e-mail: http://townhalllanes.com/emailSignup.asp

We welcomed Renata and Lilly to their first cluster meeting, and said good by to Meire, who is completing her term as an au pair and will be returning to Brazil. Gabriela, who was not able to join us on Sunday evening, will complete her year on December 5, and will be returning to Costa Rica. We wish you both the very best of luck, and will miss you!
