World Oceans Day-June 8th

World Oceans Day, June 8th,  is the United Nations-recognized day of ocean celebration and action. This year, people all over the world are celebrating under the theme of Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet. Organizations and individuals are promoting prevention of plastic ocean pollution with events in their communities, special announcements, and everything in between!

Secretary John Kerry will be hosting the third Our Ocean Conference on September 15 -16, 2016. It will bring together leaders from around the world who will join scientists, environmentalists, and business leaders to discuss the threats to our ocean and the steps that should be taken to reverse the damage. A youth forum will be hosted at Georgetown University. It will provide 70 youth participants with skill building and networking sessions that will allow them to design, develop, and implement tangible action plans on illegal fishing, climate change, marine protection and marine debris in their local communities.
