Team USA (Unbelievably Smart Au pairs) Makes Top 16 in Trivia – March

March Madness Trivia stars shown above know their stuff.  When questioned about arts, culture, geography, history, they pulled out some great facts and figures and represented well.  Our team “Team USA (unbelievably smart au pairs)” came in with only 16 other teams remaining.  Smarties in Seattle!  Thank you especially to Anna, Laura, Sharon, Natalia, Mariana and Sofia for representing. We are still apart, but we are together.

Not a Normal Holiday – December 2020

Au pairs gathered by zoom to talk about their favorite spots to go with kids, family traditions from home – swimming and eating fresh fruit in South Africa in the heat, BBQs in New Zealand and Brazil, sending letters off by balloons to Santa in Colombia, the Austrian Krampus, the German passion plays and Christmas Eves, and cooking in pajamas in Panama. They revealed gifts and secret Santas and shared the 2020 silver linings:  baby yoda, cheese plates, new romances, great families, wonderful host kids, and traveling around the state.

Fall Bucket List Challenge – October 2020

We got the spirit!  The au pairs and their host kids were off to the races this month, making the most of their October.  We got tons of pictures of them in action, getting out and about this Fall.  Here are just a few of them and the photo contest that started it all.  Congrats to Annika from Austria and Anna from Brazil who won gift cards to spend with their host children teammates.  Such fun to watch virtually from the side lines!  And in addition to those two teams, Ikky from Italy and Mariana from Brazil also made the national APIA instagram account.  Inspiration!

APIA Class Reps Run Games in Zoom – April 2020

We kept safe and at home and in our zoom room this month again.  Au pairs shared their favorite television shows, favorite zen places, and we did a temperature check of the moods/feelings we are all going through.  These women are strong (together we are stronger) and their program will go on…just not how they had imagined.

Jan 2020 Kim’s Coffee Chat

Our very own Franzi from Germany has made the cut in the finals for Au Pair In America Au Pair of the Year.  She is seen here receiving her award to return to the family who loves her so much.  Our cluster sent in more contestants than most others nationwide.  People here know how to pick a great family member!  Congrats, Franzi!  Thanks to Third Culture Coffee for hosting us!

Ascending our Active Volcano – September 2019

90+ APIA fans headed up into the clouds of Mt Rainier at Paradise.  We didn’t have clear skies, but we didn’t have rain either.  And while the beauty of the mountain might have alluded us in the bigger picture, we did enjoy the wild flowers, wild beasts (some even caught a glimpse of a bear) and one another in the wild.  A bit of speed dating on the way up on the bus and we are off to another beautiful fall season as a community of interculturalists, set to support one another on this cross-cultural journey.

Hitting the Pool – August “coffee day” 2019

Our cluster gathers more intimately monthly for coffee meetings around town and this month, we hit the pool and left the coffee behind.  Au pairs gathered for sandwiches and ice cream at the Arbor Heights pool in West Seattle.  Delightful to soak with this crew and just unwind. #welovesummer

Mariner’s Game Day with Our Tribe

Au pairs gathered for our annual Mariner’s baseball game this past weekend.  It was a beautiful sunny day spent watching a very American past time in a city that the world is also enjoying.  Play ball!

Daniela from Brazil Wins Community Service Award for WA State

Absolutely deserved.  Daniela has been a leader in our Eastside WA cluster for her entire time on program.  She has shared her multicultural views in Global Awareness presentations in schools, worked hard as an au pair with her host family and host son and volunteered her free time teaching others to have the courage to use their voices using their English abilities.  Read Daniela’s own words in her winning letter about ELLA to APIA here:

Century Link Stadium Tour – May 2019

How many pictures can we take?  Ladies were looking great in the sunshine, in the press boxes and in the locker rooms at the Century Link stadium tour.  It was really fascinating to hear about the history of the spot where our Seattle Seahawks play and we had a fine time spending time with one another as 12s on a gorgeous day.
