Our local, professional counselors are one of the many things that set us apart from other au pair agencies. Senior Community Counselor Terry Bellus (left) has more than 15 years of experience with Au Pair in America, and works year round to ensure host families and au pairs have a happy and successful experience. Read more from Terry about how she got involved and why she loves this job:
When I started working at Au Pair in America my goal was to keep a job that enabled me to work from home and spend time with my three children – now 25, 23 and 15. Little did I know, being a Community Counselor would evolve into a passion.
Raised an “army brat,” I was fortunate enough to have many opportunities to travel the world and experience many different cultures. As a Community Counselor, I am able to blend the experiences from my childhood, and those as a parent – what a gift!
I love being given the opportunity to meet young women from all over the world, and their energy to embrace new experiences drives me to work twice as hard to make their time here all the more special. I embrace the challenge of shattering any misconceptions the au pairs may have prior to their arrival in America, and delight in getting the chance to expose them to this great country of ours.
I incorporate lessons gleaned in my own 25-year parenting career to help my au pairs focus on the needs of my most important clients – the children. Guiding au pairs through life lessons like balancing a job with the excitement of coming to a new and foreign land is as thrilling to me as all of the new things they will experience here in America. There is nothing better than to wake up every day to do a job that I love!
Terry is part of a great team at Au Pair in America helping busy Fairfax County families solve their child care needs! For questions about the au pair program, schedule a consult with us at a time that’s convenient for you.
