Our local, professional counselors are one of the many things that set us apart from other agencies. Community Counselor Tanja Carroll is passionate about cultural exchange, and works year round to ensure her host families and au pairs have a happy and successful experience.
She recently attended the Rhode Island East Bay Chamber Merchant’s Fair at Kickemuit Middle School in Warren, Rhode Island to talk to families about Au Pair in America and our different program options. She made it a family affair too and brought along her little helper! All in all, it was a fun and successful event: “So many families don’t even know that having an au pair is a viable option for child care. In many cases it’s actually less expensive than daycare!”
We asked Tanja about her position and why she loves this unique cultural exchange program:
Our work as counselors is enormously enriching. We get to interact with au pairs from all over the world, different families, and so many compassionate and caring community counselors as well.
I love that I get to work with young women from all over the world. I am originally from the Netherlands, and I have lived in 8 different countries and traveled to dozens more. Growing up we also had au pairs so I can relate to the experience a host family goes through. I came to the United States in 1997 for a graduate program in Boston and the rest is history! Nine years ago we moved to Rhode Island and I absolutely love it here. In addition to my role with Au Pair in America, I also work part-time as a marketing executive for a wellness company. When I can, I love volunteering at our children’s school, as well as with several animal rescue groups.
Tanja is part of a great team at Au Pair in America helping busy Rhode Island families solve their child care needs! For questions about the au pair program, schedule a consult with us at a time that’s convenient for you.
