We always enjoy reconnecting with au pairs and host families from over the past three decades. Recently, we were excited to hear from a former au pair whose niece just completed an extended exchange as an au pair. What a wonderful thing to run in the family!
Here’s what Rachel, our former au pair from England, had to say about Au Pair in America and the opportunity to visit the United States, experience American culture and become a part of a great host family:
“I came from England as an au pair for the Lynch Family in West Hartford, Connecticut, from September 1993 to September 1994. It was the best thing I’ve ever decided to do. I was 18 years old and ready for an adventure. I was blessed with the best host family imaginable, even their extended family were amazing.
Today, 23 years later, I am still living in the United States. I am married to my husband Ted, and have three children of my own, Thomas 15, Emily 17 and Sarah 12 years old. My niece just finished her extended year as au pair in Richmond, Virginia. And like myself, she had a wonderful experience. I wish there was a program that offered the same opportunities in other countries for my children. I grew so much during that year. Thank you for changing my life!”
