Meeting at the Vapiano restaurant in Boston downtown

Yesterday we met with many of our cluster at a local downtown restaurant Vapiano for an Italian night together. We had many whose aupair year will come to an end soon in the summer and everybody who has finished all the credits for the education requirement got a certificate to take home. Our Educare aupairs needed to get 12 credits at a college or university and the standart and extraordinaire program requires 6 credits during the first year as an aupair in the US.

Coffee meeting for aupairs today

Today we met at Athan’s bakery in Brookline to talk about extension and aupair taxes. We had a great time to get to know a new aupair Aurelie from France who just arrived in Brookline yesterday. What a wonderful chance for her to find friends right away who live close to her.

Holiday Party with the Boston Cluster

This year we celebrated with our Boston cluster together the upcoming Holidays at our December cluster meeting at the counselors home.

We enjoyed a potluck dinner where each aupair brought a prepared  home made dish of their home country to share with us. This was a very special international buffet and we all had a blast to try so many delicious dishes and desserts.

To experience a typical American tradition we did a gift exchange : Yankee swap

For our agenda of the meeting we had “Help Children Cope with Stress: Tips for the Holiday Season” and “Ideas for Christmas and Chanukah Activities with Kids”.

October Cluster meeting: Zumba class

For our October cluster meeting we enjoyed a free Zumba class at the Healthwork gym in Chestnut Hill. Liza Elmstrom a former aupair from Sweden some years ago who is now a fitness trainer at the Healthwork gym introduced our cluster group to a fun class with great music.

Halloween Safety Tips

Amazon Card

Halloween can be a lot of fun but it is also a time when safety should come first. Here are some tips we recommend so that everyone can enjoy this time and be safe. With the holiday season fast approaching is a good idea to talk to each other ahead of time about American traditions.

  • Adult supervision is essential. Always accompany the children if they are going door to door to trick or treat
  • Try tick-or-treat-friendly homes. Ensure the children only visit houses with lights on.
  • And, you might also suggest the houses they visit have some sort of Halloween decoration on the porch.

  • Stay outside. Make sure the children don’t go inside someone’s house. They can trick or treat on the porch.
  • Remain visible. Dress the children in bright costumes or have them wear reflective strips or carry a glow stick or flashlight.
  • Quality-check treats. Check the candy before they eat it. Throw out any candy that is not in its original wrapper or looks like it has been tampered with.
  • Say “no” to strangers. Remind the children to never accept a ride or go anywhere with a stranger.
  • Have a great time! Finally, make sure your kids have tons of fun and enjoy the night.

September Clustermeeting

We had an amazing meeting today at my house with many new aupairs who arrived over the summer and needed to get to know each other.

We had to say good bye to Linda from Germany who will return home in October and who shared her great time here as aupair for one year with us.

In addition we worked on an art project for the International Peace Day which will be on Sept 21. Everybody was pretty busy with the project, chatting, eating and  enjoying our sunny New England weather outdoors.
