Welcome! My name is Cynthia Chan and I am the Senior Community Counselor for Southern Maryland. My service area includes: Calvert County, Charles County and St. Mary’s County.
A favorite part of my job is the cultural exchange aspect of the Au Pair in America program. I love meeting au pairs and learning about their different cultures. I love helping families and au pairs work together to raise awesome children. I enjoy offering families assistance as they journey through this parenthood experience.
I have a wonderful, active group of au pairs placed with host families in my cluster. My families are diverse and their child care needs are just as diverse and unique. Finding the right match for each family and au pair is important. I work diligently to meet the needs of each of my host families! Many of my host families and au pairs remain in close contact after their time together ends. It’s a life long bond!

I am a mother of six, ranging from toddler to adult, and a grandmother, so I understand the need for quality, dependable childcare. I am also part of a multicultural family. I am a long term resident of the area and am well versed in the uniqueness of living in this area. I am well connected with the local schools, service providers, community resources, etc.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to get to know each of the young women who come to Southern Maryland. My children have benefited immensely from time spent with them as well. Our hearts and minds have expanded as we learn not only about their culture, but share ours with them! We have enjoyed learning about many countries, including Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Poland, Austria, Colombia, Panama, Namibia and Thailand.
