Island Scavenger Hunting – October 2019

Bainbridge Island was hit by a mob of frantic au pairs.  We played some get-to-know-you games, ran around an island completing clues in a photo scavenger hunt and ended our time…eating ice cream.  Good times and tasty treats with friends from around the globe.  Doesn’t get much better.

Scavenger Hunting on Bainbridge Island – October 2018

This fun loving group ran the streets of this gorgeous island this month, taking selfies at various vendors and getting to know new APIA community members.  Au pairs worked on teams and raced to the finish line for ice cream prizes.  We took some time beforehand to talk about how to best talk through conflict when you work where you live and how to support one another through the most rewarding, but most challenging year many will face.  Together we are stronger!

Homesickness and Scavenger Hunting in a New Home State – October 2017

Over 60 au pairs on a program representing over 60 countries made some time this past Sunday to focus on self care, while they carry out the important work of childcare, culture sharing and adapting to life here in the US.  The Au Pair In America community took a ferry over to Bainbridge as a multi-cluster event.  Starting the day getting to know one another, talking about coping strategies for homesickness, scavenger hunting to know this beautiful island better and ending the day with an ice cream before ferrying home again.  It was perfect and everyone is just where they are meant to be.  #beingthechangetheywishtosee

Bainbridge Scavenger Hunting – August 2016

Au Pairs from around the world gathered on a small island in the PNW for a unique day of bonding and scavenger hunting.  Our crew split up into teams and took to the streets of Bainbridge Island to explore and meet the locals while seeing the sites.  The rain held up long enough for us to end the day with some delicious ice cream from Mora’s.  A sweet end to a sweet day!

Island Living…for a Few Hours Anyway… – August 2015

We had a gorgeous day together as three clusters met on Bainbridge Island to welcome one another, see another part of our gorgeous state and perhaps try our hand at some water sports!  Countless countries and almost all continents represented this group of over 50 au pairs, many meeting for the first time, to remember a big part about why we are all a part of this program – for the chance to get to know so many different cultures!  Go, International Friendships!  (A special shout out to those au pairs who took numerous buses and boats to make it to our day together.)  I heard from quite a few of you that you will be headed back.  Thanks to Carol, our host counselor, and to the WA state ferries for giving us some great pictures of the city we are all now calling “home.”IMG_6620 IMG_6639
