Au Pairs Discover Gates’s Global Mission – March 2024

We had a wonderful joint cluster meeting with au pairs from around the globe as we “discovered” more about the Gates Foundation together. Au pairs were able to share the main export crops from their own countries and put together the bigger picture of how we are battling poverty and hunger and willing around the world. It was a nice day of witnessing what can happen when we work together to make big changes. We arrived curious and indeed left inspired.

The Future is Female – Gates Foundation and Au Pair In America – April 2023

Au pairs from China, Luxembourg, Guatemala, Thailand, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Poland, Germany, and South Africa gathered at Gates Foundation to learn about the work they are doing around the globe.  Our gracious tour guides expertly talked through the data on world hunger, equity, pollution, parental leave, sanitation and disease.  The young women of Au Pair In America (who will soon be adding their voices and efforts to the good fight for justice)  learned about birthing methods and patient treatment around the globe, as well as water free toilets ready soon for market to combat ringworm.  It was a great learning morning and wonderful part of this group’s journey while here in Seattle.  They had smart insights and intelligent responses.  The future is in good hands.

Au Pairs Learn the Art of Giving Back – Gates Foundation – Feb 2019

Au pairs gathered from a few clusters to hear about some of the amazing things happening around the globe in the name of the Gates Foundation.  From the innovative design of green toilets competing for attention in Europe, to the stoves made on Vashon Island, WA, inspiration abounds.  Relying on data, the Gates family educates us about all the progress in the world with regard to disease and poverty.  There really is so much to be excited about as a world citizen.  We closed our time together talking about the APIA Explorer program and ways in which we might individually help our local community…enter the next cluster event stage right as we soon head to NW Harvest in March…

We Are (also) Impatient Optimists (for peace)

The au pairs gathered at the Gates Foundation this month to bear witness to all the good works being done around the world and learn about US American philanthropy.  The Gates Foundation made our international community feel right at home amongst those who cherish the idea of helping and understanding one another better on this planet we all share.

Gates Foundation, An American Tradition – Feb 2016

The au pairs headed this month to the Gates Foundation to hear about the work this important group is doing both here in WA and abroad.  The interactive museum and our guide helped to focus our attention on the areas of most concern such as clean water, malaria and education.  The work done by the Gates family and US. entrepreneurs throughout our nation’s history made for an interesting back drop on the current capitalist discussion and how this idea of altruism differs around the world.  Through simulations, we were able to try our own hand at lifting and envisioning how children would carry water to their village for miles and make it last for a full day.  We might now better empathize with the need for resource management and shut off the tap when we brush our teeth each day.
