Giving Back

Last night we had the privilege to work with Team Mathias to assemble Be The Match swabbing kits. In less than 2 hours, these amazing young women completed over 800 kits that will be the first step in potentially saving lives. It was beautiful to witness our group learn about Be the Match and how Team Mathias became involved with Be the Match. It was all Mathias, his generous soul, wanting to help others❤️?❤️ Please find out more information at www.bethematch.com and https://www.teammathias.org/

Celebrating Easter

Easter Sunday is this Sunday, April 16thth.  It is celebrated throughout the world by the followers of Christian community. It is believed that this was the day when Christ resurrected after crucifixion. This day is of great significance in the Christian community.

Church services and festive celebrations blend together during the Easter weekend. On Easter Sunday in New York and other cities, large Easter parades are held.   The popular trend of Easter symbols such as the Easter bunny and egg tree were introduced to the American folklore by the German settlers who arrived in the Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 1700s. Gradually American people took to crafts such as egg and Easter tree decoration. Easter in the United States is also a time to enjoy special Easter foods such as baked ham, potatoes and vegetables. Several special recipes are made at each home. Easter parties are also organized where traditional Easter delicacies are served and people enjoy wonderful get together along with Easter games and music.

Spring Forward Fall Back

Daylight Savings time in the United States begins at 2.00am on Sunday morning.  This means you move the clock hands forward by an hour when you go to bed on Saturday night.  It is also interesting to note that time changes in other countries may not be happening this weekend.  Most of Europe does not change until the last Sunday in March.  For more information about the history and why we do this check out, http://www.webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/

Giving Thanks and Giving Back

meeting1

We had a wonderful cluster meeting last night that focused on the importance of giving thanks and giving back!  The au pairs packed hundreds of snack bags for children served by the Cornerstone programs in Reston.  We also collected a box full of school supplies for Art for Humanity in Honduras – Art for Humanity built a school for young women called the Leadership Center and is now sponsoring an elementary school in a very small town in Honduras.

To add fun to the preparation of the snack packs, the au pairs also had a pie tasting contest and for the 2nd year in a row Pecan Pie won!

Ice Cream Sundae night!

For our cluster meeting last night we all met for an Ice Cream Sundae night! Many au pairs came to enjoy a relaxing summer evening and make their own sundae!

With summer comes many new arrivals, which is exciting! Sadly summer also means many goodbyes (never as fun) but it was great to hear from au pairs who have been here for a long time… they were able to share their best memories, some challenges, and give great advise to the new members of our group.

Another great cluster meeting!
