Hints for success

stay in touch with your community counselor, RSVP* and attend cluster meetings, or if you can not, call her back or reply to her email.

* *RSVP is an abbreviation for the French phrase “Répondez s’il vous plaît”.  It translates to “please respond”. In the US, failure to reply to an RSVP request with a confirmation of one’s attendance or absence is considered rude.

Thanksgiving and Giving Back

This year for our Thanksgiving cluster meeting we had our annual pie tasting.  Everyone got to taste the different pies they may see during Thanksgiving (Pumpkin, Apple, Pecan) and vote for their favorite one.  Many au pairs had never tried pumpkin pie before.  Apple Pie was the winner this year.

For the holidays this year we also decided to write letters to the troops.  Au Pairs can relate to being away from home for the holidays and therefore we all sent letters of encouragement for others who wouldn’t be home.

Another great cluster meeting!

Trick or Treat! Annual Halloween Breakfast

This morning we all got to enjoy a nice breakfast to start celebrating Halloween (might as well start the sugar rush early).  Many au pairs were able to bring their host children, some were dressed up and all had fun. Diane’s house is always decorated for Halloween (see pictures below).  We had so much fun!

Giving Back

Last night we had the privilege to work with Team Mathias to assemble Be The Match swabbing kits. In less than 2 hours, these amazing young women completed over 800 kits that will be the first step in potentially saving lives. It was beautiful to witness our group learn about Be the Match and how Team Mathias became involved with Be the Match. It was all Mathias, his generous soul, wanting to help others❤️?❤️ Please find out more information at www.bethematch.com and https://www.teammathias.org/

Giving Thanks and Giving Back

meeting1

We had a wonderful cluster meeting last night that focused on the importance of giving thanks and giving back!  The au pairs packed hundreds of snack bags for children served by the Cornerstone programs in Reston.  We also collected a box full of school supplies for Art for Humanity in Honduras – Art for Humanity built a school for young women called the Leadership Center and is now sponsoring an elementary school in a very small town in Honduras.

To add fun to the preparation of the snack packs, the au pairs also had a pie tasting contest and for the 2nd year in a row Pecan Pie won!

Ice Cream Sundae night!

For our cluster meeting last night we all met for an Ice Cream Sundae night! Many au pairs came to enjoy a relaxing summer evening and make their own sundae!

With summer comes many new arrivals, which is exciting! Sadly summer also means many goodbyes (never as fun) but it was great to hear from au pairs who have been here for a long time… they were able to share their best memories, some challenges, and give great advise to the new members of our group.

Another great cluster meeting!
