American families and their au pairs have such wonderful opportunities throughout the year to learn about each other’s culture. Holidays are an especially good time to share family and cultural traditions with friends and other members of our personal networks. In this spirit of cultural exchange, Natasha, a Community Counselor in Maryland, hosted a holiday party with host families and au pairs that represented eight different nations from around the world.
This holiday gathering is a superb example of the greater community coming together in the spirit of sharing.
- Each au pair was asked to bring a batch of cookies or dessert that would typically be served in their home country to share with the group. The assortment of treats was delicious and impressive!
- One of the host moms is a police offer and volunteered her time to provide a briefing on personal safety and awareness to the group.
- The party was hosted at a local business, Christina Josephs Salon in Millersville, Maryland, that provided the au pairs with salon treatments at much reduced pricing.
- The salon owner asked each au pair to share something special about their home country with their group, and in this way, everyone in attendance connected with each other and learned something new.
As you can see in the pictures, everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks to Natasha for arranging this great holiday event and sharing the details with us, and thank you to all in attendance that gave of themselves so generously.
During the holiday season and throughout the year, fun opportunities for cultural exchange like this are a terrific way to bring the world together. Season’s Greetings!
