We recently invited our au pairs to tell us why they love their host mothers, and the response was overwhelming! Many au pairs wrote back with lovely, touching testimonials to the strong, amazing women whose homes and lives they share. Read on for a few highlights!
“I love my host mom because she is the sweetest person that I know in USA and she has become my American mom!” ~ Jacqueline from Brazil, au pair in Virginia (featured with host mom Kate in photo above)
“My host mom is the best host mom ever. Since we did the match, she’s been the best. She was pregnant so we matched almost three months before I came to the US. While I was in my home country our relationship was really good. We texted each other and talked about the pregnancy and how I was doing in Costa Rica.
When I came to USA, since the first day, I felt like I was at home. She is like a mom and a friend at the same time. We talk a lot about everything. When I’m happy and when I don’t have my best days, I really trust her. We have dinner together, go to concerts, or just stay at home eating and talking for 3 hours and don’t even notice that we really talked for 3 hours. I really love her and I’m the luckiest au pair for having found her.” ~ Diana from Costa Rica, au pair in Pennsylvania
“I love my host mom because she’s hilarious, she inspires me with her work ethic and she has a great heart. She doesn’t see me as a child, she sees me as her sister as she is only two years older than me. She totally gets me and I can talk to her about anything, which makes me feel so welcome and loved! She sees me as an individual. She trusts me 100% with her kids and really relies on me, which I find great because I feel like I’m doing my job to the best of my ability. We have a great friendship and working relationship because we work together as a team in taking care of the children!
The thing I most love and respect her for is sharing her own mom with me. I have found it so hard being without my mom, and her mom literally took me in as her own. I feel that’s a huge deal, especially as she is her only daughter. So yeah, she’s pretty great and she deserves to be celebrated!” ~ Rebekah from England, au pair in North Carolina
“I love my host mom because she treats me as more than an au pair. She treats me as her own daughter. Everybody knows it’s difficult to live far from your family and friends…being an au pair is not easy, but Rachel always encourages me with everything and does her best to create happiness in her house! She’s my second mom and she’s the best host mom that an au pair can have! So today I just want to say thank you for everything you do for me every day and for being the best host mom ever ! Je t’aime ❤️” ~ Hanna from France, au pair in Virginia
“She’s not just fun and caring but she goes the extra mile to ask how was my day, and believe it or not, it actually makes a difference. I can have an open conversation with her and not be afraid that I’m going to be judged…she always has a smile on her face that can light up a room. She’s smart and passionate about everything she puts her mind to. She’s not just a role model for her beautiful daughters; she has become an amazing role model for me. I personally could have never asked for a better host mum.” ~ Keroshnie from South Africa, au pair in California
Happy Mother’s Day to ALL mothers from Au Pair in America!
