International Education Week is November 12th through 16th this year and, as such, we are celebrating all things global education, cultural exchange, and more! Host mom, Ita, shared this heartwarming reflection on how hosting an au pair — particularly their au pair, Aaisha from Brazil — has provided an international education experience for her entire family. She shares that it has been especially monumental her daughter, Noa. Read on to learn more:
This is our first year hosting an au pair, and my first year of being a mother. Having an au pair as part of our family is helping to shape my daughter’s formative understanding of the world. She spends most of her waking hours with Aaisha, and so she is receiving a good portion of her early childhood education from her. Although Aaisha is from Brazil, she has a major affinity for Japan and Korea. Most days, Aaisha plays Korean pop music and records music videos with my daughter, who loves it. At the same time, I speak to my daughter only in Hebrew, so Aaisha has learned some words and phrases in a new language herself!
Our conversations revolve around food, language, and traditions from all of these countries, and the cultural exchange has deepened all of our lives.
