Au pairs are required to complete a minimum of 6 credits, 7.2 CEUs or 72 hours before they finish their year.
Au pairs intending to extend should plan on earning their credits before their 11th month starts. To be approved for extension in your 10th month you already need to have completed or registered for ALL your hours.
If you want to take a class at a school not listed below, please check with the counselor first to make sure the institution is accredited. Otherwise, it would not count towards your education requirements. Please discuss your enrollment plans with your host family before committing to a class.
Your host family will pay an education allowance ($500) to assist you in completing your education requirement. Normally au pairs will contribute some of their own money ($200+) towards their education.
IMPORTANT: Once you complete your education, fill out this form. To do so, first open the form, then click “File” then “Make A Copy”, then fill out your information, finally save and email to Adriana including a copy of the certificate from your completed course(s). Certificates must be in PDF or JPEG format. APIA does not accept links for certificates.
