Our local, professional counselors are one of the many things that set us apart from other au pair agencies. Community Counselor Catherine McEaddy Holmes has experience as a counselor as well as a host family, as she is hosting her second au pair. She works year round in the D.C. area to ensure host families and au pairs have a happy and successful experience. Read more from Catherine about how she got involved and why she loves this job:
My name is Catherine McEaddy Holmes and I am the Community Counselor for several Washington, DC neighborhoods, including Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Petworth, Takoma, and 16th Street Heights. I live in Columbia Heights with my husband, our two children, and our au pair.
As a mother of two young children, I understand well the juggling act between career and motherhood, and childcare is an issue close to my heart. For the past two-and-a-half years, we have hosted au pairs, and we continue to find the experience positive and rewarding.
Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, I moved to Washington, DC in 2000 to pursue a MFA in Creative Writing from American University. My fascination for cultural exchange began as an undergraduate history major at Davidson College when I had the opportunity to live in France. Prior to joining Au Pair in America, I taught high school and college students, worked as a writer in the White House, and founded a copywriting and editing service.
I work to provide host families and au pairs in my cluster with services that make participating in the program easier and more rewarding:
- Matching assistance
- Monthly newsletters
- Private “cluster” information for au pairs and host families
- A cluster blog with lots of links and info
Catherine is part of a great team at Au Pair in America helping busy D.C. families solve their child care needs! For questions about the au pair program, schedule a consult with us at a time that’s convenient for you.
