Welcome to the next installment of our #FoodieFriday series! Are you finding yourself cooking more in the time of Coronavirus and social distancing? You aren’t alone! We asked our au pairs to share their favorite recipes to help inspire your next kitchen adventure. Each week, we will share a delicious recipe from around the world. Last week, we explored Coke Chicken from China, but this week’s recipe comes from one of our German au pairs! Learn how to make potato pancakes, or kartoffelpuffer, a popular dish in Germany.
German Potato Pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer) Recipe:
- 5-6 potatoes
- 3 eggs
- 1 small onion (grated)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 4 teaspoon of flour
- butter or oil
- Grate potatoes. Be sure to remove any excess moisture by squeezing grated potatoes in a dish towel.
- Place all ingredients into bowl (except butter) and mix.
- Put enough butter/oil for frying into a pan. Pour about ½ cup of batter into pan and fry about 3-4 minutes on each side. Repeat until batter is gone. Add butter/oil when needed.
- Eat plain or with apple sauce or jam!
And there you have it — kartoffelpuffer, delicious German potato pancakes! Check back next week for our next installment of #FoodieFriday and discover more recipes from our au pairs.
