Academic Year in America (AYA), a non-profit and sister program of Au Pair in America, places high-school exchange students all over the country. AYA is seeking families to host for the year, semester or 4-6 weeks as a welcome family.
Do you know someone who would be a great host family? If you refer a new host family, you can earn $100! Do you know someone involved in the local community who would love to work with exchange students? If you refer a new Local Coordinator you can earn $250! Find out more about referring host families and coordinators on our referral resources page.
Why host?
Expose your family to a new and different culture!
AYA places students from Thailand, Germany, Brazil, Poland, Hungary, Korea and more. AYA also works with the Department of State FLEX and YES Programs, placing students from former Soviet countries and Muslim countries in the U.S. to learn about American culture.
Form a lasting friendship.
A host family visiting their former student in Germany
As with hosting an au pair, the bonds you form last a lifetime. You can have a positive impact on a high school student and give your kids a friend and role model.
All students are between the ages of 15 and 18, attend a local high school, and are fully insured. Our Local Coordinator will supervise the placement throughout the year, plan events for the exchange students in the area, and provide support to you and the student should any issues arise.
