In MD, DC & VA the laws state that children under age 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat that is appropriate for their age, weight and height. Children over age 8 must be properly secured in a vehicle seat belt. (That is more lax than best practice recommendations which suggest children ride in a booster seat until they fit safely into a vehicle seat belt and their feet touch the vehicle floor. This will vary by child and vehicle more than age.)
Car seats and booster seats save lives, there is no doubt about it. But, just having the car seat in the car is not enough. Car seats and booster seats can only save lives if they are properly installed and used.

Planning is the key! Bored kids are more likely to get into mischief and fight with siblings. Have lots of ideas ready and avoid those problems as much as possible.

Rockledge Elementary had their Annual Holiday Shop on Friday, 12/6. Au Pair in America sponsored the arts & crafts activities: providing the craft supplies as well as some volunteers to assist the children. Four au pairs volunteered: Joanne from Colombia, Pamela from Brazil Ana from Costa Rica and Yuli from Mexico. In addition to being an au pair, Yuli is a professional photographer and she volunteered to take the pictures of the children with Santa.

On Friday, December 16, our cluster went to the Verizon Center for a Holiday Party followed by a Washington Wizards basketball game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Unfortunately, the Wizards lost by 40 points! We still had a great time and it was the first NBA game most of the au pairs had ever attended. Come to think of it, it was my first NBA game too!
