1. Your friendships and family expand.
When you host an au pair, you gain access to a network of friends and an international family. In addition to your au pair, you have the chance to get to know the fellow host families and au pairs in your community and your au pair’s family overseas. Connections with the world around you are what au pair exchange is all about—and before you know it, you may find branches of your family have extended around the globe!
2. It’s fun to explore international culture!
Through au pair exchange, families learn and grow together for an enriching cultural experience. You can select an au pair from nearly 60 countries around the world to become familiar with the customs and lifestyle of another nation or even practice another language. Hosting an au pair gives you a chance to share your family’s holidays and traditions while learning about those of your au pair. These opportunities lead to treasured memories and expanded world views.
3. The convenience of in-home child care is tough to beat.
Families love the added flexibility and peace of mind of au pair child care. In-home child care can work wonders to help you reduce stress and manage household schedules without added aggravation—and welcoming an au pair into your family is a great way to gain trusted and reliable in-home child care. Each day you get to know your au pair better, you can continue to streamline a schedule of child care that works best for your family unit and your au pair.
4. Global skills are in high demand.
Parents and children alike benefit from getting to know (and love!) their au pairs. Hosting an au pair provides so many opportunities to explore different cultures and customs, improve communication skills and add real-world perspective to the news and textbook lessons. Adults gain intercultural skills for the workplace and children form an innate understanding of the complex world we live in.
5. Your kids will thank you!
When you host an au pair, your kids grow up with culture and international perspective. They have advantages that other kids don’t, with an awareness of the world and personal connections that can yield tremendous opportunity in their lifetime. Your children will appreciate the love, support and benefits of au pair child care, now and long into the future. After 30 years as America’s premiere au pair program, we often hear from people that grew up with our au pairs that their education, social network and career prospects were influenced and improved as a result of the loving, intercultural care they received.

From Jan 1999 till Feb of 2000 I was an au pair for the best family in Baltimore, MD.
It has been many years ago, though there is not a single day gone by, that I don’t think if them. I miss them and their families so very much !!! I am now 40 years old, have twin boys, who will be turning 8 next month.
I had the BEST time of my life !!! I know you hear that all the time, but honestly, I had !!!!!!!! And I wish I could just see them once more !!!!
I had the amazing privilege of having my community counselor over a few years ago for a visit, Patty Antreasian. She brought her daughter along, and they stayed at house for 2 weeks. But that – was also about 4 years ago.
We still keep in contact through facebook and messanger. I will forever treasure those days – forever in my heart !!!!
Best wishes for the festive season.
