Representative Cory Atkins with au pairs from Au Pair in America in the Massachusetts House Chamber
Community Counselor Debra Welch organized this fantastic cultural experience for Au Pair in America participants to learn about the American political system up close.
Local Representative Cory Atkins and many legislative aides from various representatives’ offices at the State House were in attendance. One of our au pairs suggested the topic of more J-1 Visas, so Representative Atkins conducted mock legislation around this topic.
Au pairs enjoyed a customized State House tour with a trivia quiz, the mock legislation session and a pizza lunch with Representative Atkins and the various legislative aides.
Au Pair in America’s regional program manager Elizabeth Azeizat also joined the group for this fun and educational event.

Hi – I have a question about the students. If they spend 45 hours a week to take care our kid, it seems like most of his/her time will be for our kid. How does he/she involve in getting to know the American world? Are those programs pairing with schools from foreign countries and students have curriculums that they need to follow?
Thanks!
Hi Tiffanie! Au pairs through the Standard Au Pair program and the Extraordinaire program only take 6 college credits in the year that they are here. They attend classes at a local community college normally. Her classes would be worked around her work schedule. She will also have meeting once a month with our community counselor in your area.
