International Exchange Day — commonly referred to as J-Day — is being celebrated today! Across the United States, the power of international exchange is highlighted by sharing cultural diversity and customs, giving back to local communities, and having fun. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of international exchange programs and spread the word about the power and breadth of cultural exchange!
The goal of International Exchange Day is to encourage participants to take a whole day – or even a few hours – and participate in something bigger than all of us while having fun. We are so proud of how the Au Pair in America community got involved in volunteer opportunities nationwide! Here are just a few examples:
In Staten Island, a Community Counselor and au pairs participated in a shoe drive.
In Maryland, au pairs volunteered at a local diaper bank.
In Illinois, au pairs collected shoes for children who live in the village of Rancho Grande in El Salvador.
In Houston, au pairs collected socks that will be donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Center — and also wrote a message of hope and love in their native language on kindness rocks!
We are so proud to be part of the international exchange community! Thank you to all of our host families, au pairs, and Community Counselors who got involved in honor of this day of celebration.
