Our au pair program has received widespread success and recognition for not only providing families with reliable childcare, but also building life-changing connections for all involved. One such example is the Dattilo Family from Georgia who recently shared the impact that Sylwia, their au pair from Poland, has made on their lives.
Truly like Family
At Au Pair in America, we always say that your au pair becomes a part of your family. In Sylwia’s case, it couldn’t be truer.
“Within a week of her arrival, it felt like she had been a part of our family for years. On a daily basis, she interacts with us during her working hours and during her ‘off-duty’ hours. She often has dinner with us, cooks with us, partakes in dinner conversations and discussions, watches movies with us, accompanies us on family outings on weekends, and travels with us on family vacations.”
Connecting with the Children
We make sure our au pairs are screened, trained, and have documented childcare experience. As with many of our au pairs, Sylwia went above and beyond to connect to the children in their family. She built a genuine rapport with their teenager and helped the younger child gain confidence.
“The way she interacts with our children is also extraordinarily special. She has connected with and befriended our oldest son (now age 14) in a way that no other Au Pair has done. I often hear them talking and laughing at dinner, in the kitchen, and the family room; these interactions and sounds bring utter joy to my heart. Her interaction with our youngest son (age 7) is also nothing short of exceptional. Under her guidance and supervision, he has grown and matured immensely. Since Sylwia has arrived, he is more independent, confident, and self-assured; a lot of things that we had to previously assist him with, he now does independently and with ease, such as doing his homework and cleaning up after himself. This is in no small part due to Sylwia’s efforts and work with him.”
Cultural Enrichment
Our au pairs are excited and eager to experience the American way of life while sharing their own customs and traditions.
“Sylwia has introduced our family to a variety of new foods, including banana pancakes, roasted vegetable soup, pickle soup, and numerous salmon and chicken dishes.”
As someone who is passionate about cooking, Sylwia enjoyed spending time preparing Polish dishes for the children. She often cooked alongside the family on weekends and holidays. She also took courses to improve her English and traveled to different parts of the United States.
“In addition to her travels, Sylwia is determined to speak English fluently. Although her English is excellent, she has enrolled in an upper-level English language course at a local college, which she just completed. Additionally, she is an avid reader and reads almost exclusively books written in English. She is planning to enroll in further courses at either Harvard, Emory, or Stanford to help improve her English and pursue her business interests.”
Meaningful Connections
Our goal is to help families find the right au pair that meets their unique needs, creating intercultural relationships like the one between Sylwia and the Dattilos. Their story truly captures the heart and spirit of our au pair program.
