Newseum KIDS FREE Summer Fun Deal

From the Newseum website:

Now through Sept. 1, 2014

The Newseum offers everything from the Berlin Wall and Pulitzer Prize-winning photos to interactive games. And this summer, there’s one more great reason to visit — kids get in free! July 1 through Labor Day, the Newseum waives admission for youth visitors age 18 and younger. Up to four kids visit for free with each paid adult or senior admission, or Press Pass membership.

Whether you have just a few hours or want to spend all day, you’ll find something for everyone in the Newseum’s 15 theaters and 15 galleries. Don’t miss “Anchorman: The Exhibit,” on display through Aug. 31, 2014, featuring props from the hit movies and a look at real 1970s news teams. Also see “One Nation with News for All,” opening May 16, 2014, a new exhibit that tells the dramatic story of how immigrants and minorities used the power of the press to fight for their rights and shape the American experience.

Six Flags for Summer Fun

300707_10150310024799057_7650508_nWe are lucky to have Six Flags America amusement park in our cluster area. Since lots of au pairs have expressed interest in going there, I wanted to share some tips on how to get the best deal on admission.

Prices and offers are subject to change. This info is correct as of 4/23/13. Check website for specifics.

Admission

Six Flags has Season Passes for $49.99+tax per person, if you buy them in packs of 4. If you can get together with some friends to take advantage of this deal. If you buy less than 4 season passes, they are $59.99+tax per person.

Single-day Admission to Six Flags is $39.99-59.99, depending on whether you buy them online or at the gate. So, it is a much better deal to get the season pass.

If you decide not to get a season pass, you should buy your Single-day Online Ticket in advance to $15-20 off the price you would pay at the gate.

Season pass and other tickets may be purchased here on the Six Flags website.

Other costs to consider

Parking – Single Day ($20) or Season Pass ($50)

Food & Drinks – Meals are approx $15

You are not allowed to bring outside food and drinks inside. To save money you can pack a lunch and keep it in the car.  There is a picnic area in the parking lot where you can go out and eat lunch and then re-enter the park. Make sure to get your hand stamped on the way out in order to be able to re-enter the park that day.

Discount Tickets for Other Amusement Parks
MNCPPC offers discount admission tickets to Six Flags, Kings Dominion, Hershey Park and several other amusement parks in neighboring states. Those are available at community centers in Prince George’s County. Check the PG Parks website for details.

Free Admission Day at Port Discovery

port-discovery

This Friday, July 16th, Port Discovery will be hosting Target Arts & Wonder Family Free Day. Museum admission will be FREE to the public all day from 10am – 7pm.

Be prepared for heavy crowds all day, as many families will take advantage of the great deal.

Visit the Port Discovery website for directions and more information.

Port Discovery is one of my favorite places in Baltimore to take my kids. They have all kinds of great hands-on, interactive attractions for kids.  They advertise it for kids from ages 2-10, but my 13 year old still has fun going there.  Another thing I love about Port Discovery is that there is a parking garage right next door to the museum, which is very convenient.
